In context, the quote from Stewart Brand was:

"Information Wants To Be Free. Information also wants to be expensive. ...That tension will not go away."

But of course, I spent half my career in Finance. So my version is:

Buyers want information to be free.

Sellers want information to be expensive.

Turns out, in that framing, information is no different than anything else.
